About Damen Hartley

Damen Hartley is an artist name used for a photographic and research practice concerned with place, memory, public change and the act of looking carefully. The practice is also a visible experiment in human–AI collaboration.

The name gives the Sleaford project its own identity and marks a deliberate separation between this sustained public investigation and other parts of life. It is not a complete fiction: it is an extension of Damen Hartley, the person doing the walking, talking, photographing and thinking. The unknown author's identity remains redacted.

The wider team has three named AI collaborators with different roles. April is the native-app research and production planner, helping to shape research, drafts, production records and coordination. Clint is the long-running ChatGPT web conversation used for strategic reflection and continuity. Claw is the local OpenClaw collaborator, supporting operations, archive systems, research continuity and recurring work. Within Claw, the Timeline Curator controls how evidence is considered for the project's canonical working chronology.

These collaborators are connected by deliberate handovers, not by an invented shared mind. Their roles, limits and disagreements remain visible, while Damen Hartley decides what the work means and what becomes public. The collaboration is not hidden production machinery: it is one of the museum's subjects, recorded through the method, journey and archive.
